Staré pověsti české a moravské (Old Czech and Moravian tales) are published in the Adapted Czech Prose series, which introduces students of Czech as a foreign language to the wealth of Czech traditions and cultures. The publication is designed for students on the level of B1 and above.
Ten tales provide an introduction to the most famous names and tales of Czech national mythology and history: forefather Čech, Libuše and Přemysl, Libuše's prophecy, Horymír and his faithful steed Šemík, the maidens' war, Prince Václav, King Ječmínek and more. Students can thus find out about the people, events and sayings which can be called the foundation of the national and historic awareness of every Czech person. The volume is accompanied with clear pictures, which illustrate the plot and help readers understand the meaning of the stories.
The publication contains a set of exercises to improve grammar, vocabulary and communicative skills for each text, a Czech-English-German-Russian dictionary and an answer key to exercises.
